My sweet friend Lisa started glowing a little less than a year ago. You never saw her without a smile. She was planning a wedding. Her own. She had known Dennis for years and always just as friends. And how many couples do you know that said they had never considered their friend as anything more? It has been so much fun to watch her be so happy. Then some sadness happened. As a result of Covid-19, the state shut down. Even the small weddings I had shot in the weeks previous weren’t allowed. So just Lisa, Dennis, the pastor (Lisa’s son) and I headed to the chapel to get married. They sent out virtual invitations to their Facebook Live ceremony and said “I do.”
What they didn’t know is that Lisa’s friends had planned a flash mob on her front lawn immediately post-nuptials. I raced back to the house and ran down the road just in time to see masked flower girls scatter petals in front of the newly weds’ car. The smiles on the faces of the dancers showed just how happy they were for their sweet friend. They couldn’t resist celebrating.
