Some wedding days just make my heart happy, and this was absolutely one of them. This wedding checked ALL my emotional boxes. A couple who was genuinely excited to get married, families who love each other well, thoughtful details that reflected the bride’s personality, and a whole lot of joy. The details were beautiful, but they weren’t the point; getting married was the point. I loved every single minute of this joyful Birmingham wedding. This family is very close to my family, and we just love them. Needless to say, the opportunity to photograph this wedding was extra special. My face honestly hurt by the end of the day from smiling so much!
The bride readied in a beautiful southern home. She had a style all her own, knowing exactly what she wanted. Her vision was vintage Barbie, and she stayed committed to the look. Even her wedding dress came from a thrift store! I love a bride who has a distinct vision of what she wants and sticks to it. It was so fun to see her personality come through, not only in her style, but throughout the day! Her joyful smile and laughter was proof that she was having the best day of her life, and I love that their photos captured all that happiness.
The ceremony took place at Homewood Cumberland Church, surrounded by the people who love this couple most. The officiant was also the bride’s dad, who happens to be a pastor. During the ceremony, he kept reading more scriptures. Every time we thought we were getting close to the big moment, there was another passage. Then, finally, he got to those words: “You may kiss the bride!” There was so much love and meaning in the ceremony, and I loved getting to photograph a day where the focus was clearly on the marriage they were beginning.
A Reception at Stash Birmingham
After a heartfelt ceremony, everyone headed to Stash for the reception. If you haven’t been to Stash in Birmingham, it’s an enormous store full of vintage goods, and it made for one of the coolest and most unexpected reception settings I’ve ever photographed. It was SOOOO fun. There is something about celebrating in a space filled with interesting finds and all kinds of unexpected details that makes the whole evening feel different from the usual wedding reception.
The venue itself brought so much personality to the celebration. It was such a fun fit for the bride who loves vintage items and has her own taste she really wanted to lean into. Also, if you aren’t following @stash_bham on Instagram, you should be. Their account is hilarious!
To this sweet family, thank you for letting me be part of such a special day. We love you all, and it was such a joy to celebrate with you!
